CitySwift announces partnership with Bus Éireann to improve performance on bus networks across Ireland

CitySwift, the leading company in data intelligence for the public transport sector optimising over 1 billion passenger journeys annually, has today announced its partnership with Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company.

CitySwift, an intelligent transport data platform that improves the performance of public transport networks, using AI-powered analytics, simulations and optimisations, will be working with Bus Éireann over a five year contract to optimise the network in Galway, Cork, Limerick and other large urban centre’s outside of Dublin. Due to changing travel patterns post-Covid, and increased traffic congestion, it’s now essential for urban bus operators to have access to an intelligent data solution to assist with timetable optimisation and gaining accurate insights on network performance. Bus Éireann will leverage CitySwift’s platform to get access to accurate insights that help them pinpoint exactly what’s happening within the network, and will accelerate network optimisation to deliver a better passenger experience.

Brian O’Rourke, co-founder and CEO at CitySwift, said: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Bus Éireann, which is a pivotal milestone in our journey towards revolutionising public transportation across Ireland by having access to quality data. Bus Éireann is embracing innovation by utilising intelligent data to understand travel patterns and adapt the transport network based on these insights to meet passengers’ needs. This partnership underscores our commitment to delivering real, tangible results to our customers.”

Based in Galway, Ireland, CitySwift was founded by Alan Farrelly and Brian O'Rourke in 2016. CitySwift collaborates with public sector transport authorities and private bus operators to eliminate obstacles in accessing and interpreting transport data, optimising over 1 billion passenger journeys annually. With hybrid working from home patterns and increasing leisure travel, cities have to become more agile in their operations to ensure passengers can access fit-for-purpose, convenient transport services; CitySwift’s platform aggregates, cleans and enriches data from hundreds of sources, providing both operators and authorities with an accurate single source of truth. These partnerships are centred on access to precise data throughout the network, empowering both entities to adopt a data-centric strategy aimed at moving passengers from private transportation to more environmentally-friendly public transit options.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Bus Éireann’s Chief Customer Officer, Allen Parker, commented: “We are excited to be working with CitySwift, enabling us to take a data-driven approach to optimising the bus network. CitySwift’s platform will allow us to gain a true understanding of what is happening with the network, resulting in an improved service for passengers - for aspects such as understanding passenger behaviour through ticketing data, this is of huge value to our business. It is the platform’s offering, in addition to CitySwift’s specialised expertise in bus networks, that have made them an ideal partner in driving change through innovation.”

This partnership closely follows other developments for the Galway-based company, having opened its first UK office earlier this month in London and announcing additional partnerships with Transport North East, Transdev Blazefield, and trentbarton. Bus Éireann now joins National Express, Transport for Wales, and Metroline, in using CitySwift’s technology to improve bus punctuality and increase passenger satisfaction. Additionally, in February of this year CitySwift announced the close of its latest funding round of €7 million led by Gresham House Venture, as the company scales for growth globally.
